Takayama - A hidden gem

Takayama, located in the mountainous Hida region of Gifu Prefecture, is a charming city known for its well-preserved Edo-period streets, traditional wooden houses, and rich cultural heritage. It's a little bit like a little Kyoto. However, if you want to take pictures with fewer people, consider getting up early in the morning :). We chose Takayama as our base the explore the Chuubuu region. Here is our 3D2N itinerary: Day 1: Train to Takayama, visit the Hida Fold village and the Takayama old town. The photos in this article are all in the Takayama old town. Day 2: Visit Kamikochi (very beautiful in the autumn) Day 3: Visit Shirakawago - A UNESCO World Heritage Site located about 30 minutes from Takayama, famous for its traditional gassho-zukuri farmhouses. #japantrip

#artshunting address - 1-19 Shimosannomachi, Takayama, Gifu 506-0814 located at takayama, above a quaint cafe called Quon’s cafe which sells excellent blended chocolate. very cute memorabilia of Gifu japan. that little three man truck was the highlight of the museum (in my humble opinion) never seen it before previously. not many people there, showcases many of the old toys of the past. even the massage chairs are interesting, does people actually use it? nostalgic place.

Nice beef and great town

This is Takayama situated in Hida region, Gifu prefecture. You can take the Hida limited express train from Nagoya and it would take approximately 140 minutes to reach there~ Takayama retains a traditional touch like their old shopping streets. They are also famous for Hida beef! Be sure to try it out over there~ There are also a few ONSEN resorts to enjoy in that area! #celebratewithtrip

Hida Takayama is located in Gifu Prefecture, in Japan's central Hida region. At Motoyu Magokuro, a hot spring hotel in Fukuji Onsen, Takayama, Japan.

Photo taken on November 5, 2014 I highly recommend this hot spring hotel in the Japanese countryside. Some camera photos. Motoyu Magokuro is a great Japanese-style hot spring hotel in Fukuji Onsen. I highly recommend it. During the autumn foliage season, it's best to book three months in advance. The rooms are large and beautiful, the hot springs are comfortable, and the food is delicious, especially the Hida beef, which is truly top-quality beef. November 5, 2024, from Nagoya to Takayama, 2 hours and 50 minutes by express bus; from Takayama to Fukuji Onsen, 1 hour and 10 minutes, 4 hours by bus; plus transfers, it takes nearly 4.5 hours. Magokuro (Motoyu Magokuro) is a high-end hot spring hotel that I carefully selected from the five hot spring villages in Okuhida Onsen. Otherwise, why would I take a 5-hour bus ride and spend a lot of money to book here? Once you experience a Japanese-style hot spring hotel in the mountains, you'll be reluctant to leave, and it will become the biggest temptation for me to visit Japan again. What does a hot spring hotel offer? The one-night, two-meal style represents Japanese hot spring culture. The rooms are tatami-matted, modern, and comfortable, with beautiful autumn foliage views outside the window. There are 8 indoor and outdoor baths, all with natural hot spring water, without any cold water or non-hot spring water added. The hot spring water here is rated as drinkable. Motoyu means that the hot spring water source is right here. This hot spring hotel is rare in that the temperature of the flowing spring water is just right for soaking, and the spring water flows continuously, making it a high-quality hot spring worth experiencing. My companions had no experience staying in a Japanese-style hot spring hotel, so I persuaded them to soak naked in the public bath. The best outdoor baths are all public. This hotel also has two private baths, which do not require reservations or fees. True high-end comfort should be like this. Even in the public baths, you hardly meet other people. My sister and I had the place to ourselves for an hour, with no one else, so I could take photos. In addition to the hot springs, the service at the Japanese-style hot spring hotel is also highly commendable. My companions praised them many times today. The ultimate service is not just about attitude, but also about details, such as after finishing a meal, when we opened the door, our slippers were neatly arranged. I can say that if it weren't for the hot spring hotel, I wouldn't have the motivation to visit Japan again and again. It's so much fun and enjoyable.

Hida Folk Village

Hida Folk Village (Hida no Sato) is an open air museum exhibiting over 30 traditional houses from the Hida region, the mountainous district of Gifu Prefecture around Takayama. The houses were built during the Edo Period (1603-1868) and were relocated from their original locations to create the museum in 1971. In a village-like atmosphere, the museum features buildings such as a former village head's house, logging huts, storehouses and a number of gassho-zukuri farmhouses, which are named after their steep thatched roofs resembling a pair of hands joined in prayer ("gassho"). They were moved here from nearby Shirakawago, where gassho-zukuri houses are the reason for the region's World Heritage status. I wish to be back in Gifu. #2024wish

Takayama - Quaint Old Town in Gifu

#wheretogo Located in the Gifu Prefecture, Takayama is a rural traditional old town surrounded by nature and mountains. Beautifully preserved buildings, dated back to olden days could be found in this old town with the beautiful Miyagawa River flowing across the town. Sanmachi Old Town consists of 3 main streets with the houses and stores preserved and maintained just like back then during the Edo period. You can see a lot of small kiosks and restaurants selling Hida Beef all around Takayama. There are also a lot of people strolling along the river and across the bridges. There are 2 morning markets in the town, where the Miyagawa Morning Market is along the river.

Hida no sato folk village

If you find yourself in Takayama, take an easy 45 mins walk from the town centre to the fairy folk village of Hida no Sato. The village is a beautiful open-air museum that showcases traditional architecture and culture of the Hida region. The village will be especially of interest to those who want to learn about Japanese history and culture. Entrance is 700JPY for an adult ticket which can be bought on the spot. Make sure to leave plenty of time for your visit though: with nearly 30 exhibits, I managed to properly visit just about a half in an hour and a half. There are also various folk games available to play for free along the way. You can also feed the fish in the pond for just 50JPY per bag of fish feed.

Mikoto Sushi (Takayama)

A small friendly sushi restaurant with great sushi. The sushi is fresh and the price is reasonable. Don't miss the Hida beef sushi too. Strongly recommended. Fresh sushi is served. The owners are friendly and the service is fast. The sushi set comes with the miso soup which is super Delicious!

飛驒の里 - 高山市

It takes about 40 minutes to walk to Takayama Station. This area has beautiful old villages, traditional cottages, and a beautiful little lake in the middle. Please note, I went to work before I was there, but the next time I was there, I was a little short. When the train leaves Takayama Station, the 8-minute bell rings. The image of the arrival of Hida is a miniature Shirakawa town, but the impression of the village has not faded from the carpet.
