Just 40 minutes by ferry, it feels like stepping into another world — where life moves slower, the sea sparkles brighter, and the pistachios are legendary. The island has a charming, authentic Greek vibe that hasn’t been overly touched by mass tourism. The main town is perfect for a slow stroll along the waterfront, lined with colourful boats, traditional tavernas, and friendly locals. I highly recommend stopping for a seafood lunch by the harbour — fresh, delicious, and reasonably priced. One of the highlights of my visit was the Temple of Aphaia — perched on a hill with stunning views of the Saronic Gulf. It’s incredibly well-preserved and a must-see for history lovers. For beach time, head to Agia Marina or Marathonas Beach, where the water is calm, clear, and perfect for swimming. Whether you’re into history, food, or just want a quiet place to relax in the sun, Aegina ticks all the boxes. It’s easy to reach, yet feels like a true island escape. Perfect for a day trip or even a relaxed overnight stay.
