11th-century Lombard Romanesque Church

A Mediterranean journey through Spain ~ Barcelona (Region) Catalonia's masterpiece of 11th-century Lombard Romanesque architecture. Consecrated in 1040, it underwent decorative enhancements during the later periods (12th to 14th centuries) and served as the family shrine of the Cardona family. This slender church features an unprecedented underground crypt, murals in the courtyard, and an eccentric cloister. Noteworthy are the details of the two tombs, one on each side of the nave. From the gallery, you can still get a more complete view of the entire structure. The crypt is also spectacular—small yet uniquely charming. Before entering the church, be sure to admire the Galilee paintings. Although they are replicas (the originals are housed in MNAC), they still appear magnificent to me.
