Hoshi Onsen Chojukan is located at the foot of the Mikuni Mountains in Gunma Prefecture. It is remote and was opened in 718 AD (nearly 1,300 years ago, 46th generation of the family). It is said to have been discovered by the great master Kobo Daishi, hence the name. There is only one inn at the source of Hoshi Onsen, which is Chojukan. This situation is called "Ikken-yado", so Hoshi Onsen and Chojukan actually mean the same thing. Now the main building and annex are listed as national tangible cultural properties in Japan. Staying in such an inn is really a wonderful experience. Hoshi Onsen has three hot spring pools, one for men and one for women, and one of the most famous mixed baths. It is so amazing that I dare not try it. The hot spring ♨️ uses 100% hot spring water, without adding water or heating, and the temperature is about 41°C. It is named Chojukan because its hot spring is said to have very good therapeutic effects on the body. The colorless and transparent sulfate acid is said to be effective for gastrointestinal diseases, burns, arteriosclerosis, etc.
