Worshiping Buddha in the ancient city of Ayutthaya

Monday morning is so bright 🥰 Wat Phutthaisawan is located on the west bank of the Chao Phraya River in Sampao Lom Subdistrict, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya District, opposite the city island. During the Ayutthaya period, Wat Phutthaisawan was a large, famous and most important royal temple during the reign of King Ramathibodi I or King U Thong, the first king of the Ayutthaya Dynasty. According to legend, he built it in the area where his pavilion was located when he migrated to settle before establishing Ayutthaya as the capital. This place is named in the royal chronicles as "Tambon Wiang Lek" or sometimes distorted to "Wiang Lek" in 1896 B.E. in the area of Wiang Lek Palace, which was his first residence when he migrated to establish Ayutthaya as the capital in 1893 B.E. Later, an epidemic broke out. He therefore moved his people to build a new palace near Nong Son (Bueng Phra Ram) in the area where Wat Phra Si Sanphet is now located. As for Wiang Lek, it was established as Wat Phutthaisawan, the first monument of the establishment of the capital. When Ayutthaya was established in 1896, he ordered the construction of this temple as a royal memorial in the district where he had originally settled. Later kings followed this tradition and ordered the construction of many more permanent structures. Furthermore, when the capital was lost in 1767, Wat Phutthaisawan was another temple that was not destroyed by the Burmese like other temples. Therefore, it was still in a relatively complete state. Today, there are still many ancient sites to see. Interesting things include the principal Buddha prang, which is located in the middle of the Buddhavasa area on a large plinth in the Khmer art style, two pavilions with principal Buddha images inside, and the ordination hall on the west side of the prang. The group of twelve pagodas, the reclining Buddha shrine, and the palace of Somdej Phra Buddhakosajarn, who was a senior monk during the Ayutthaya period. This palace is interesting because the walls of the palace have colorful paintings of groups of deities, ascetics, paying homage to the Buddha's footprint, the palace of Thao Chatukam Ramathep, and a junk ship when Phra Buddhakosajarn traveled to Sri Lanka.
