PRAMBANAN TEMPLE

Prambanan Temple is the largest Hindu temple in Indonesia and one of the most beautiful in Southeast Asia. According to the Siwagrha inscription, construction began during the reign of Rakai Pikatan (mid-9th century) of the Ancient Mataram Kingdom. However, for reasons still mysterious, the center of the kingdom moved to East Java in the late 10th century. This magnificent temple was abandoned and partially buried by volcanic material from Mount Merapi. Gradually, the Prambanan area became dense forest. Hundreds of years later, the ruins were rediscovered. At that time, the temple's history was unknown, giving rise to the legend of Roro Jonggrang, which has been passed down through generations.
