Sendai｜Dishes that surpass grilled beef tongue

Drawn in by the beef tongue bun displayed at the entrance of a restaurant, I decided to stop by for lunch. The restaurant has a traditional Japanese izakaya vibe. At this hour, there was only one table occupied. Besides regular seating, there’s also a counter where you can watch the kitchen prepare freshly made dishes. I ordered the weekday lunch special, which is made fresh upon order. The dishes arrived quickly, and to my surprise, the two meal sets and beef tongue sausage filled the entire table. The beef tongue sausage was quite flavorful. Pairing it with the fresh greens on the side helped balance the saltiness. The key is to dip it in the mustard seed sauce—it’s a perfect match. The thinly sliced grilled beef tongue was crispy and chewy, with a delightful texture. Eating it with rice enhanced its aroma. The highlight, however, was the grilled beef harami steak. It was far superior to the beef tongue. The steak was incredibly thick yet melted in your mouth—unbelievable! The seasoning leaned towards the heavier side, but the texture of the beef was so enjoyable that it paired perfectly with rice.
